As an atheist I lack a belief in any gods. They are figments of the imagination. So what I actually bust are arguments. I am not against people having and enjoying their religious beliefs. However when people attempt to criticize others, persuade others, threaten others. and impose their ancient, primitive, superstitions and traditions on others then I am no longer tolerant of their beliefs. They have opened themselves up to criticism and people will naturally resist and fight back against them (figuratively of course).
It is important to note that an atheist simply lacks belief in a god or gods of the theistic sort. This is not the same thing as denying the possibility that a god or gods exist. This is not the same thing as a belief that a god or gods do not exist. It is simply the lack of a belief that they exist. I lack a belief in the reality of unicorns but I do not believe that they do not exist or deny the possibility of their existence.
God busting is partially a response to theists stepping on people’s toes and partially just to promote rational thinking and scientific principles. When people think rationally they aren’t as gullible and less likely to fall victim to scams and deception. Just as people had to learn how to crawl and then walk, people also need to learn how to think rationally and develop critical thinking skills.
